The members of NORSNET strive to sustain a network capable of continued innovations and progress within both basic and applied social network research. The aims and activities described here spring from a sincerely felt need for social network research in health care, social work and in related areas within education and organisation studies. The network aims to:
- create an accessible community of learning for researchers and practitioners
- provide interaction between students, scholars, clinicians and project managers
- provide opportunities for peer consultation by means of an electronic mailing list
- establish a common understanding of theoretical frameworks, research methods and intervention strategies
- create a Nordic register of scholars, doctoral students and practicians
- establish a database of past, present and planned Nordic social network projects.
This will be accomplished by:
- offering doctoral courses and workshops
- arranging a biannual conference on social network research
- establishing bilateral and multilateral research projects
- enabling researcher mobility
- establishing an electronic discussion group
- facilitating the production of joint publications
- arranging an annual symposium for core members.
The NORSNET vision is that these activities will not only continue, but also develop and diversify.
